:: Overview ::

The successful candidate will work closely with Plant Managers, Regional Safety Director, Director of Distribution, and the Regional Management Team. You will identify best practices and foster their adoption throughout the region. As Safety & Control Loss Manager, you are expected to bring management attention, focus, and action to sites or departments with poor safety performance. You will also provide direction and leadership to the different Management Teams within the Plants and distribution centers to leverage common initiatives. Through this direction and leadership, the Safety & Control Loss Manager is expected to drive consistency and compliance.

:: What You Will Do ::

  • Ensure utilization of management systems by the Region to assist in eliminating accidents.
  • Ensure timely and effective follow up of regional and divisional safety audits.
  • Ensure regional compliance with Health and Safety Policy and regulations.
  • Up-to-date, complete KPI tracking.
  • Effective safety-related support to management at various levels in the region.
  • Work closely with Plant Managers, the Regional Safety Director, Director of Distribution, as well as the balance of the Regional Management Team, to develop, implement and evaluate effective regional health, safety and loss control systems.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Policy implementation.
  • Facilitate/Support safety related culture change initiatives.
  • Ensure expectations are clearly communicated and accountability is fixed at the appropriate levels.
  • Facilitate the creation, development and implementation of divisional and regional safety, health and loss control training programs.
  • Ensure implementation of the Safety and Health Manual and Best Management Practices.
  • Monitor federal, state and provincial agencies for regulatory changes and advise operations of the same.
  • Serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, health, loss control and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
  • Ensure regional/divisional safety audits and follow-up/closure.
  • Oversee the implementation of systems to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, the Health & Safety policy, and establish management systems where not in place.
  • Oversight of regional safety, health and loss control KPI tracking.
  • Ensure accident reporting/investigation/analysis is conducted
  • Investigate serious incidents, make recommendations to correct problems, and impart information on a company-wide basis.
  • Oversight of all major construction activities regarding safety and loss control issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and relations with regulatory agencies. Coach Safety Managers/Advisors to determine priorities in coordination with divisional and regional business plan and objectives.
  • Represent Division on teams and projects as required.


:: What You Will Bring ::

  • Minimum of a College degree: BS or BA- a Masters degree or MBA would be an asset.
  • Minimum 5 to10 years safety, health and loss control related experience. Related operational experience is preferred.
  • Experience in health and safety auditin.
  • Nationally recognized Safety and Health certification preferred.
  • Candidate must be a hands on individual with a proven ability to implement change.
  • Experience implementing change through team base safety.
  • Complete working knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial legislation and regulations.
  • Strong communications and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence and develop others, build strong working relationships, and lead effective change.
  • Excellent negotiation, team building, coaching, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to work diplomatically and effectively.
  • Self-starter able to work autonomously with solid organization, analytical/problem solving, and planning skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Bilingual (English and French), written and oral.
  • Available to travel throughout the region 40 % of the time.
