:: Overview ::

Our client is looking for a General Manager who will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of a retirement community and the related facilities according to the strategic direction set out by the company. This role is an exceptional opportunity for an energetic, motivated leader with management experience in a similar setting. The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation, management and marketing of a large retirement community located in the Ottawa Region.

:: What You Will Do ::

  • Represent the company at community activities to enhance the facilities community profile.
  • Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the company.
  • Ensure that the operation of the facilities meet the expectations of its tenants, management and partners.
  • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the facilities.
  • Draft policies for the approval of Management and prepare procedures to implement the company’s policies.
  • Ensure that privacy/confidentiality is maintained.
  • Implements marketing efforts.
  • Implements and chairs monthly resident and faculty meetings.
  • Supervise the head dietary/chef.
  • Supervise the Attendant/Housekeeping department.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the companies programs and services.
  • Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects.
  • Determine staffing requirements
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices.
  • Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal skills.
  • Implement and manage a performance management process for all staff.
  • Prepare and manage a comprehensive annual operating and capital budget.
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other companies to help achieve the goals of the company.


:: What You Will Bring ::

  • Ten (10) or more years in general management leading position.
  • Experience managing a union work force with a collective agreement.
  • Experience in retirement industry or hospitality/hotel industry a must.
  • University or Post Secondary Degree in a related field an asset.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to private sector retirement care: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage etc.
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
  • Knowledge of human resources management, financial management & project management.
