:: Aperçu ::
The General Manager reports directly to, and is fully accountable to the President. The General Manager provides overall leadership, motivation and management of the four (4) main functions of the Company: Operations, Estimating, Sales and Administration. He/She will provide planning, direction, supervision and coordination of all aspects of the construction function, as well as provide administrative and technical direction necessary to sustain the company's growth and profitability objectives for all projects undertaken by the company.

Our Client has been offering complete professional construction services for over 20 years. A non-union construction management, design-build and general contracting firm, our Client operates in the fields of commercial, institutional, industrial and civil work construction and renovation.
:: Vos responsabilités ::

Implement and carry out the company’s strategic plan, goals, objectives and mission of the Company.

Develop, approve and implement written policies pertaining construction operations (sites and offices) within the Company.
-
Develop an Operations budget in conjunction with the Controller that will support the administration, operation and sales activities of the Company and submit it to President for approval.
-
Grow revenues and profitability through sound business practices, reviews of work and processes, and training of staff to maintain and increase the company's stature in the market place.

Take necessary steps to identify products, processes and strategies that will assist the company in maintaining a lead ahead of competition.

Maintain awareness of Construction & HVAC Industry related trends, advances and improvements, and determine the economic impact of financial, technical or political activities that could affect the company; Keep alert to new sales potentials and recommend new strategies to the President for sales or ways to improve competitiveness.

Full HR responsibilities, including to hiring, terminating, advising, counseling, disciplining, and re-assigning employees in the Company.

Resolve jurisdictional disputes and negotiations with Unions and Trade Contractors (where applicable).

Coaching – encouraging, guiding, motivating, supporting teams and individuals.

Creating and maintaining a work environment that shows concern for it’s people as much as for its property and promoting the autonomy and growth of each individual employee to the level of their capability.

Supervise, direct, control, coordinate and monitor the progress of each project and ensure that all projects are constructed safely, within or below established budgets and within or ahead of established schedules.

Ensure that all projects are constructed in accordance with plans, specifications, building and regulated authority codes (ie. TSSA, ESA), government and municipal laws, bylaws, codes and regulations.

Review project financial reports, forecast costs to complete and final gross margin and provide monthly project reports to President.

Provide leadership, assistance, guidance and strategic direction to Project Managers in claims preparation, presentations, negotiations and settlements.

Approve all decisions relating to which bid opportunities the Company will pursue/close.

Review and approve all trade pre-qualifications with the Estimator prior to receiving subtrade pricing on any given tender.

Review and approve all cost estimates prior to tender closing.
-
Participate actively in finalizing the job estimate and in closing tenders and client proposals.

Conduct monthly meetings with all construction team members to keep them informed on those matters, which affect the successful performance of their jobs, the status of special projects, the company as a whole, and what is happening in the Construction Industry.

Actively participate in Construction Association (board of directors preferably) and other community associations.

Ensure that preventive maintenance is carried out on all Company equipment and vehicles.

Perform a minimum of twelve (12) site safety inspections each year and keep records of same for audit purposes.

Ensure that all site construction staff receives pertinent safety training required in the performance of their duties and tasks.

Coordinate the Company’s Safety Training Programs.

Attends seminars/trade shows and other meetings either to enhance your personal professional knowledge or to promote the company as required.

Represent the company at industry functions, social clubs and activities and be involved in the community.

Develop sales leads into requests for bids and customers of the company’s services. Look for bid opportunities.

Develop markets in those areas where maximum profit can be realized within company resources and capacity restrictions.

:: Qualifications & Compétences ::

A University Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/or Business Administration is preferable, however an Engineering diploma from an accredited College or University is acceptable; HVAC Technician certificate from Ministry of Training, College and Universities also acceptable.

Minimum of ten (10) years management or project management experience in an HVAC company. Experience must include supervisory, business development and project management responsibilities.

Estimation experience a must

Experience with heating, ventilation and air-conditioning

Gold Seal Certification (GSC) obtained or willing to obtain GSC.

Able to read, analyze and interpret general business reports, financial reports, technical procedures and safety rules. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and to effectively present information to the top management.

Must possess entrepreneurial and leadership skills
-
Ability to read and understand plans, specifications and analyze building designs.

Computer literacy and experience with spreadsheets is very desirable.

The ability to manage employees.

A valid Driver’s License and good driving record.

Bilingualism a must.
